Iain started his time with football with the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association (KDSA) as a long-standing member of the Mount Colah Football Club. He was Manager and Coach of sides within the Club. One of the teams was a successful team for the Club and the KDSA. In 1991, the Mount Colah Under 15 side were runners-up at the Champion of Champions (see photo below with Iain on the far right). This same team went on to win the Champion of Champions in 1993 as the Under 17 side. Iain was the manager of this side.

Iain joined the Management Committee of the KDSA as the Morning Registrar / Recorder in 1992. This involved checking registration of the Junior teams and players from each Club. It was before the time of computer-based registration and entailed a significant amount of manual work. Iain also received and recorded the results of the Junior games played each week. In 1993 and 1994, Iain served as the Junior Chair of the Junior Football Committee. This Committee oversaw the Junior competitions and the regrading of these at intervals during the playing season.
From 1995 until and including 1997, Ian was the Senior Vice President of the Association supporting Phil Rees (who was President at the time). In 1998, Iain became our 5th President of the Association taking over from Phil Rees. Iain held that position up until and including 2002 when he resigned the position and Chris Rayner was elected to fulfil the vacancy by the Management Committee.
During Iain’s time on the Management Committee, several important and historic achievements occurred within the Association. The Management Committee saw the employment of the first paid General Manager of the Association, the introduction of Female only competitions and Representative Teams as well as a significant growth in player numbers which almost doubled from 5,904 in 1992 to 10,703 in 2002.
Iain was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Iain passed away in 2021.
Iain was made a Life Member of the Association in 2001. We thank Iain for his dedication to the sport of football and his contribution to the growth and development of the Northern Suburbs Football Association.
