NSFA Launches MND NSW Round to Honour Damian Miles and Raise Funds for MND

Join NSFA in the Fight against Motor Neurone Disease and Donate to MND NSW

The Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) and its clubs are gearing up for the highly anticipated MND NSW Round, set to commence from June 24th & June 25th 2023.

MND THEME ROUND

This special round aims to raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease (MND), generate funds for MND NSW, and show unwavering support for the late Damian Miles, the former NSFA Competitions Manager who was diagnosed with MND in 2020 and on Saturday 24th September 2022 peacefully passed away in hospital.

In past years MND Round 12 has been a resounding success, surpassing the goal of $7,000 and raising an astounding $9,303. This year, NSFA is determined to build upon that achievement and make an even greater impact.

WHY ROUND 12?

In football, the crowd and support staff of a team is often referred to as the ‘12th man’, providing additional support to those on the field to win the match and perform their best. Damian has been the 12th man within NSFA, contributing significantly to NSFA, KDSA, KDFRA and Northern Tigers during his time involved. Damian will forever be the 12th man of local football within NSFA which we will recognise and celebrate each season.

VALE DAMIAN MILES

Damian Miles, a life member of both NSFA and the Ku-ring-gai & District Football Referees Association, has dedicated 14 years of his life to NSFA, leaving an indelible mark on the football community. His involvement with the NSFA representative club, Northern Tigers, as the Men’s First Grade team manager for seven seasons, has further solidified his influence and impact.

Speaking about the MND NSW Round, NSFA CEO Kevin Johnson emphasised its dual purpose: “Our MND NSW round not only aims to raise awareness of Motor Neuron Disease but also work towards raising vital funds to provide support for people living with the disease, plus their families, friends and carers. Damian was a long-serving NSFA staff member, however even before this time, he was a valued member of our football community. We hope to honour his legacy within our football family during Round 12”.

The MND NSW Round will feature a series of events and initiatives across NSFA throughout the week. NSFA will spearhead fundraising efforts, including challenges, donations, and promotional material, to support MND NSW’s mission. All NSFA clubs are invited to contribute to the fundraising drive.

WHAT IS MND?

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a group of diseases that progressively affect the nerve cells controlling essential bodily functions. With no known cure or truly effective treatment, those diagnosed with MND face a debilitating and challenging journey. MND NSW is a leading organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by MND and funding critical research initiatives.

Join NSFA in the MND NSW Round to honor Damian Miles and contribute to the ongoing battle against Motor Neurone Disease. Your support and donations can make a meaningful impact in the quest to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Together, let’s stand united against MND.
