History Corner: Life Member Lee Sullivan

Lee Sullivan started his volunteer roles with football with Northbridge Football Club joining the Club Committee in 2003. Lee held several positions with Northbridge FC including Age Coordinator, Coordinator of training grounds and was on the Committee of Management for a number of years. Lee was Secretary of Northbridge FC from 2009 through to 2013 – no small task as Northbridge FC is one of the largest clubs within the Association.

In 2012, Lee became a member of the Junior Football Committee (JFC) for the Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA), a position that he continued for a couple of years. The JFC would oversee the grading and re-grading of the non-competition age groups as well as manage the Junior competition age groups. Lee was also a Ground Manager for the 6-a-side competitions organised by the NSFA.

Lee was appointed as the Treasurer of the NSFA in 2016, filling a casual vacancy on the Board of Directors. He was officially appointed to the NSFA Board on the 30 November 2016. Lee has continued in this role and having served on the Board for the maximum number of years permitted under the Association’s Constitution, finishing up at the AGM of the Association in December 2024. Lee held the position of Treasurer of the NSFA for 9 years and during this time he also chaired the NSFA Finance and Risk Committee.

Lee guided the Association through the unprecedented COVID seasons of 2020 and 2021 and provided financial sustainability to the association. The years that Lee has been Treasurer has involved the planning and budgeting for the North Turramurra Recreation Area (NTRA) ‘Home of Football’ development, a project that is scheduled to commence in 2025.

Lee has put a substantial amount of his time into overseeing the NSFA financial management. Lee has approved payments every week, prepared monthly reports and prepared the end of year accounts for the auditors, reviewed the budget, forecasted team fees for the upcoming season and presented the accounts and answered questions at the Annual General Meeting. One of Lee’s successful tasks was providing true transparency by age group of registration fees which was reflected in member registration fee adjustments over a number of years.

During Lee’s time as Treasurer the financial management of the Association has matured significantly. The accounts now reflect true cost allocation, profitability and sustainability of each of Association’s products (e.g. summer football, winter football etc.). He has always considered every situation on its merits in a professional manner and with consideration of the Member Clubs of the Association and their club members.

We thank Lee for his enormous contributions at both Club and Association level to football in our region. Lee was made a Life Member of the NSFA at the Annual General Meeting on 2 December 2024.
