The Women’s Premier League Semi-Finals are here, with the four strongest sides this season battling it out for a place in the Grand Final. UTS were looking to bounce back from defeat against the same opposition as they faced West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook for the second week in a row. Northbridge came up against Lindfield in a clash between two strong sides, both looking for Grand Final glory.
UTS FC 2 – 0 West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook FC
West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook arrived at the semi-final full of confidence after their remarkable victory over UTS in the final week of the regular season. Hoping to repeat the feat, they faced a UTS side determined to cap off a fantastic season by booking their place in the Grand Final.
The game started at a frantic pace, with Stefanie Aisbett continuing her outstanding form and opening the scoring after just seven minutes. It was the perfect start for UTS and a strong response as they looked to put last week’s defeat behind them.
UTS continued to control proceedings as the half progressed, limiting WPHC’s opportunities and taking their one-goal advantage into the break.
WPHC came out with renewed intent after half-time, searching for a way back into the contest. However, UTS stood firm defensively, frustrating their opponents and limiting their chances.
As the clock ticked away, UTS began creating opportunities of their own as they looked to put the result beyond doubt. The sealer finally arrived with 10 minutes remaining, when Hannah Macri found the back of the net to secure a commanding victory.
The result sends UTS into the Grand Final, where they will look to cap off a remarkable season by taking home the championship.
Northbridge FC 1 – 4 Lindfield FC
This was a huge Semi-Final matchup, with two heavyweight sides looking to secure a spot in the Grand Final. Northbridge finished runners-up in the regular season and wanted to go one step further by winning the final. Lindfield had won the State Cup earlier in the season, knowing what it takes to win in the big games.
The game started fast, with both sides creating chances early on. Northbridge were able to score first, with Gemma Chandiok putting her side ahead. The lead didn’t last long, with Eliza Apps responding two minutes later for Lindfield to level the scores.
Lindfield gained control of the game, as Lilly Redding continued her strong season and found the back of the net before half-time. Being up 2-1 entering the sheds, Lindfield looked to build on the lead and put the game beyond doubt.
They did just that, as Sophia Hamilton extended the lead just 5 minutes into the second half. They were not done there, with Ciara O’Sullivan adding a fourth just 6 minutes later. Their dominance on the field was backed up by the scoreboard, as they professionally showed why they know how to win big games.
The game ended 4-1, with Lindfield coming in hot to the Grand Final clash next week against UTS. It is set to be a classic at Christie Park, don’t miss this!
Lower Half Final
Beecroft FC came up against Northern Galaxy in the Women’s Premier League Lower Half Final, with Christie Park set to host another hard-fought clash. Both sides entered the match after grinding out narrow victories in their respective semi-finals, setting the stage for another tight contest.
The game followed a similar pattern to those semi-finals, with both teams staying disciplined defensively and unwilling to take unnecessary risks. Chances were few and far between as the sides battled for control, with the scores remaining locked at 0-0 heading into half-time.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with neither side able to find a breakthrough. Defences remained resolute, and as the clock ticked towards full-time, extra time looked increasingly likely.
But with just two minutes of normal time remaining, Northern Galaxy found the decisive moment. Jemima Moffat popped up in the 88th minute to score a late winner and send Galaxy in front.
Beecroft pushed for an equaliser, but Galaxy held firm to secure a hard-earned 1-0 victory and claim the Lower Half Final in a contest decided by the finest of margins.
