After 20 intense weeks of Women’s Premier League action and two thrilling semi-finals the week before, it all came down to this. The Grand Final had arrived, and only two teams remained standing: UTS and Lindfield.
UTS had been a dominant force from the very first whistle this season, producing a remarkable league campaign with 16 wins and just two defeats. But standing in their way was a Lindfield side full of confidence, having already lifted the State Cup earlier in the season and now chasing a memorable double.
It was a Grand Final worthy of two of the competition’s heavyweights. With so little separating the sides on paper, predicting a winner was almost impossible.
The stage was set, the teams were ready, and Christie Park was pumping. It was time to find out who would win.
The game got off to a flying start, with Genevieve Love giving Lindfield the perfect opening when she found the back of the net after just four minutes. It was exactly the start Lindfield wanted, immediately putting UTS under pressure and setting the tone for what was to come.
As the half progressed, the match developed into a high-quality contest, with Lindfield defending their one-goal advantage. UTS worked hard to find a way back into the game, searching for openings and looking to get their key players involved, but Lindfield remained composed and resilient. The 1-0 scoreline remained intact heading into half-time.
UTS came out of the sheds determined to find a response. They looked to break down a disciplined Lindfield defence and bring their star players into the game, but Lindfield continued to frustrate their opponents. At the other end, they remained a constant threat, creating opportunities of their own as the clock continued to tick down.
With just 20 minutes remaining, the decisive moment arrived. Experienced forward Molly Woods stepped up for Lindfield, finding the back of the net to double their advantage and put her side firmly in control at 2-0.
UTS were unable to find a way back, with Lindfield seeing out the remainder of the match to secure a deserved Grand Final victory.
It was a professional and decisive performance from Lindfield, who can now add Grand Final glory to their State Cup honours. Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season and a well-earned championship win!

The Leigh Wardell medal for the Player of the Match was awarded to Emma Watkins from Lindfield, who had a commanding performance and led her side to victory.
