Brian Troy: A Stalwart of Hornsby Heights Sports Club and NSFA

Brian Troy started his playing career with Hornsby Heights Soccer Club (a division of Hornsby Heights Sports Club) on his return from a stay in England in 1972. He played in many grades for the club and became Chairman of the All Age Soccer Committee for Hornsby Heights.

Brian was influential in the progress of sport and the facilities in Hornsby Heights. He represented the Club at Council Ground Allocation Meetings and was also a guest of Hornsby Council and the Hornsby Heights Sports Club at the laying of the first brick of the current club house at Montview Oval. Brian was also the President of Hornsby Heights Sports Club which offered the sports of Soccer (now known as football), Netball and Cricket. During his time as President, the sports of Australian Rules Football (AFL) and Little Athletics were introduced. It was no surprise when Brian was honoured with Life Membership of the Hornsby Heights Sports Club.

Brian was one of our printers for the Soccer News publication (also known as the Green Sheet) for the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association (KDSA, now known as the Northern Suburbs Football Association or NSFA). The Soccer News included competition draws and was the medium through which the KDSA disseminated information to players before the days of the internet. In addition to fixtures, it also contained competition tables and news. It was published and distributed several times a season.

Brian joined the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association’s Protest, Disputes and Disciplinary Committee (PD&DC) in 1989. For 19 years, Brian served on the PD&DC and/or on the Appeals Board. His final year on the PD&DC Committee was in 2007. He served this role with numerous Chairs showing his valued and measured approach to the role.

Brian was awarded Life Membership of the KDSA in 2008  Brian currently lives on the NSW Central Coast.

We thank Brian for his amazing contribution to sport and football in the Hornsby district and his time and efforts in growing the NSFA and football in our association.
