Local Primary schools enjoy 2023 Skellern Cup

Local Primary schools enjoy 2023 Skellern Cup

The Women’s World Cup is fast approaching our shores and the 2023 Skellern Cup was a great way to celebrate female football and showcase what a great experience football creates for all involved.

The Skellern Cup was established in 2017 to celebrate the achievements of sisters Amanda and Kim Skellern. The 2-day tournament is free for Primary Schools students within the Northern Suburbs, where Junior teams (Years 3&4) participate on Day 1 and Senior teams (Years 5&6) participate on Day 2.

The teams receive a variety points throughout the tournament including team spirit, fair play and best dressed. As the Womens World Cup is closing in we also awarded points to teams for getting behind our Aussie Matildas and creating Matildas Chants and Matildas themed posters.

It was great to see so many players getting involved in the event and embracing the Matildas theme this year. Also, wonderful to see generations of football fans at the event together!

Throughout the Skellern Cup the game leaders were on the lookout for players of the day and a big congratulations to those players who were awarded 3 weeks free at our XLR8 Skills Development Programs and a Sam Kerr Kicking Goals Journal.

Congratulations to Gordon East Public School on winning the Junior Competition for the 2nd time and to Roseville Public School for winning in the Seniors competition for the 2nd year in a row, what an amazing achievement by both schools.

The winning teams received a full team kit to use for the PSSA games and a big thank you to Sydney FC for offering the winning schools the chance to observe the Womens Sydney FC team in action at their training session and a meet and greet with the players after the session.

Across the 2 days we had 20 schools registered with over 500 girls participating. These players received flyers with information about NSFA clubs in their area and the XLR8 Player Development Programs offered throughout the year.
