Women’s Premier League Season Preview

Women’s Premier League Season Preview

Eight clubs will fight it out over 14 rounds for the NSFA Women’s Premier League title, with reigning premiers Northbridge looking to make it a sixth consecutive year at the top of the table.

There has been a change in the coaching ranks for the title holders, with Dene Ramsden stepping in to fill the position vacated by Ciaran McCabe, who has overseen the last three seasons.

However, as always there are challengers waiting for the chance to knock the premiers off their perch – North Sydney United will enter the season buoyed by their success in last year’s finals series.

Having finished the regular season with three straight losses and dropping into third place behind Lindfield A, the team in red and black rallied to defeat Lindfield in their semi final before handing Northbridge just their second loss of the season in the final.

Despite bowing out in the semi final against North Sydney, 2019 was a season of growth for Lindfield A, with their second-place finish the club’s highest since 2012. With a team full of former Northern Tigers representatives, new coach Graham Nes should be targeting a title challenge this season.

Lane Cove will make their return to the top flight under the guidance of Peter Crawford after a season in Division 2, following the departure of Northbridge B, who finished fourth last season.

Northbridge B’s withdrawal opens the door for the remaining five teams in the league to break into the top half of the table – only five points separated fourth from eighth in 2019.

UTS, Turramurra United and West Pymble will have learned from their first seasons in Premier League last year, while Lindfield B continue their club’s strong presence in the top tier.

West Pymble will lay claim to the best chance of a place in the top four, finishing last season in fifth – three points clear of Turramurra United and with a much stronger goal difference.
