Meet Gemma Comanos: A Beacon of Inspiration in Female Football
In the spirit of Female Football Week, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on the incredible Gemma Comanos from Prouille FC. Gemma’s journey within the football community is not only inspiring but truly embodies the spirit of dedication and passion for the beautiful game.
Gemma’s involvement with Prouille FC spans eight incredible years. From starting as a team manager for the Under 7s to now managing multiple teams, serving as the Female Football coordinator, and even handling uniform management for the entire club, Gemma’s commitment knows no bounds.
Her journey into football administration was unexpected, but her deep connection to the club and its community solidified her role. Gemma’s involvement extends beyond her own family’s participation in the sport; Gemma feels it’s about fostering a sense of belonging and connection among players, families, and the wider community.
Female Football Week holds a special place in Gemma’s heart. It’s a time to celebrate the remarkable progress of women’s football and the incredible achievements of female athletes. From the growth of the Matildas to the seeing local clubs come together, Gemma sees Female Football Week as a beacon of hope for the future of the sport.
“…it [FFW] is such a great reminder of how far football in the female space has come!”
Personally, Gemma is eagerly anticipating the first ever NSFRA female referee course this week, while also looking forward to the Northern Tigers game for her girls. For Gemma, football has been life-changing. At the age of 38, she took the leap into playing for the Prouille FC Ladies team and discovered a newfound passion that has enriched her life and connected her to a vibrant community.
As Gemma continues to inspire those around her, we extend a special thank you to Beyond Bank Australia for their unwavering support in empowering women like Gemma and fostering inclusivity in football. Together, we’re making a difference on and off the field.
