The NSFA Coach Development team is conducting NSFA Super League and Diamond League matchday mentoring throughout the season. This initiative is designed to support NSFA coaches on the ground in their club setting by receiving bespoke mentoring from NSFA Coach Developers. Read on to learn more about NSFA Coach Developer Eilidh Mackay!

Who’s your favourite football team and player – and why?

Celtic. It runs in the family! Favourite player is Henrik Larsson – unbelievable striker! I have enormous respect for his loyalty, a rare quality in today’s game. He went to Barcelona and Manchester United at the end of his career which highlights his quality. It’s funny to see more Celtic jerseys pop up in Sydney the last few months – impact of having an Aussie coach!

Why are you involved in the delivery of coach development within NSFA?

Support football in the region – we have high standards for what NSFA football can look like centred around retention the player’s experience. Coaches are an integral part to that vision better coaches = better players = players keep playing!

Tell us some of your key highlights as a coach or coach developer?

When I run into a coach who has been on a course the year before and they are excited to share their experiences as a coach. It is also great to hear they still dreaming about words and pictures and their time on courses supported their journey.

What have you learnt when delivering courses, workshops or mentored others within the NSFA community?

The desire from NSFA coaches to learn and help their players. The gratitude to have access to these opportunities within the region with no cost.

How have the changes to the coach development courses this year within NSFA benefitted the coaching community and you as a presenter?

The changes have made the courses more accessible which supports What’s Best For Her goals of increasing the number of female coaches in the region. The new format will support more females leading coach education.

What are your goals for coaching and coach development this year?

Learn! Always learning. This year I will be doing my A-Licence. I have also been granted the opportunity to be involved in a FIFA Coach Education Program so lots of learning!

I am also working with an ambitious group of players who have big goals collectively and individually so that is exciting!

We continue to raise the standards in Northern Tigers Girls SAP program with our long-term development focus. It is fantastic to work with five young female coaches and supporting their journey.

In one word, what does being an NSFA Coach Developer means to you?

Inspiring.
