Running for Premature Babies partnership announced

Northern Suburbs FA and Northern Tigers FC are excited to announce Running for Premature Babies as a major partner for 2022.

The Running for Premature Babies Foundation was founded in 2007 by Sophie Smith after she and her late husband Ash lost their first-born triplet sons, Henry, Jasper and Evan, following an extremely premature birth at 24 weeks.

Running for Premature Babies is a registered Australian Charity that raises funds for lifesaving neonatal equipment and research projects dedicated to advancing the care of premature babies nationally.

They raise awareness of premature birth – celebrating all premature babies, both living and lost – and inspire people to achieve their fitness goals. Since 2007, more than 6,000 people have run with Running for Premature Babies, raising over $4.5 million, funding over 85 pieces of life-saving neonatal equipment and helping save the lives of around 7,000 premature babies.

Running for Premature Babies founder Sophie Smith is thrilled with the partnership.

“I’m so honoured to have this fabulous opportunity to partner with the NSFA and the Northern Tigers for the 2022 season, and am excited to see how together we can kick some goals to give sick and premature babies a better chance of survival.”

Running for Premature Babies will feature extensively throughout NSFA in 2022 with many exciting fitness challenges, initiatives, and ways for the community to get involved.

NSFA and Northern Tigers will kick off the partnership with a preseason fitness challenge to encourage members to dust off their boots, work off the summer belly and get ready for the 2022 season.

“I am really excited to welcome Sophie and Running for Premature Babies to the NSFA community. The story, purpose and impact of the charity is amazing and I cannot wait to connect our football community with ways they can help the charity and also help themselves,” commented NSFA CEO Edward Ferguson.

“With over 18,000 players in NSFA we must have strong representation of premature babies and I believe our partnership provides an opportunity for us to celebrate those individuals, raise awareness and help support the charity raise funds for life saving equipment.”

Running for Premature Babies will be featured on the Northern Tigers shirt, upper back as pictured below.
