Sustainable Sports Program

Sustainable Sports Program

The Sustainable Sports Program (SSP) is an exciting local community sports initiative developed with the assistance of a Federal Government Grant in 2020, by two football mums from the lower North Shore. They believed community sport could play a leading role in sustainable sports practices and encourage youth to play a role in being part of the solution for a brighter future.

The SSP was piloted in 2020 at Northbridge Football Club and this year in 2021, NSFA will launch it in football in NSW. Hopefully, the program will roll out nationally across various sports in the future.

NSFA would like to invite representatives from our clubs to be involved in the launch of the Sustainable Sports Program (SSP), to demonstrate how it will benefit your club’s sustainability vision, encourage youth to play a lead role and build a positive momentum for community sports clubs to show a leadership role for players and parents.

The program is aimed at creating sustainable canteens, recycling within our Clubs and developing good practices in our participants for the future.

As part of the launch of the Sustainable Sports Program each club in the NSFA  is invited to nominate up to 10 youth players who would like to step up and be a youth ambassador. Generally, players aged from 8-18 years are invited.

A Sustainable Youth Ambassador will be asked to show leadership within their team and year group, to attend online meetings approx. 30 mins every 4-6 weeks, participate in 2-3 activities across the season and to share a voice for positive change.

The Sustainable Sports Program is based on a series of activities, events and initiatives that combine to create greater awareness of options and behavioural choices that provide youth the chance to lead and engage in their future world and in doing this, make a positive impact on improving their local sports club’s sustainable footprint.
