In the heart of Female Football Week, Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) is proud to spotlight one of its most remarkable trailblazers, Hilary Bingham.
As the first female President in the association’s storied history, Hilary’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of women in football leadership roles.
Since its establishment in 1957, NSFA has been a cornerstone of football development in the community. Hilary’s involvement in football with Gordon FC dates back to 2002, but her ascension to the presidency in 2024 marked a historic moment. Initially approached in 2016 by former NSFA CEO Howard Mann, Hilary was asked to consider a vacant position on the board. Her acceptance and subsequent official appointment in October of the same year laid the foundation for her groundbreaking tenure.
Reflecting on her motivation to join NSFA’s board, Hiary cites a deep-rooted commitment to community service. Despite not being a football player herself, her passion for community engagement and administration fueled her desire to give back. Serving as Vice President since 2016, Hilary has gained invaluable insights into NSFA’s operations, fostering strong relationships with clubs, stakeholders, and governing bodies like Football NSW.
Hilary’s impact extends beyond administrative duties. She recognizes the profound influence football has on community cohesion, particularly for female players. Inspired by the success of the Matildas in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Hilary has witnessed a surge in enthusiasm among female players. NSFA’s initiatives, such as live screenings of matches and tailored events, have further solidified the bonds within the “Football Family.”
As Female Football Week unfolds, Hilary eagerly anticipates the array of events planned to celebrate and encourage female participation. Among them, the Mini World Cup and special appearances by the Northern Tigers FC promise to inspire the next generation of female footballers. For Hilary, the joy of seeing girls’ smiles as they engage with the sport and their peers epitomizes the essence of the beautiful game.
