Women’s Premier League Weekly Review – Round 7

Round 7 of the Women’s Premier League saw fantastic matches being played during Female Football Week. The celebration shows the growth in Women’s Football, and this has been represented this season with a brilliant13 team competition across the NSFA and NWSF associations.

North Sydney United, WPHC, Northbridge, and UTS picked up important wins for their push towards the top of the ladder, whilst Northern Galaxy got their second win of the season. The Flying Bats got an important win in the Match of the Round against Lindfield.

Northern Galaxy 10 – 0 Putney Rangers

Northern Galaxy came into this match looking to get their second win of the season and climb up the ladder. With Berowra Oval as the setting on Sunday, they faced off against Putney Rangers.

The hosts started strong, with Lauren West getting a hattrick inside the first 21 minutes. They were able to add two more before half time, with Rienits Clare and Matilda Waite getting on the score sheet. The home side were able to match this in the second half, scoring another 5 goals with Lauren West adding 4 more to her tally. Georgie Waite added a final goal to make the scoreline 10-0.

Beecroft FC 0 – 3 North Sydney United

This match was set to be a test for North Sydney United who were looking to maintain their form against a Beecroft side who have been positive so far this season, winning three and losing two entering the round.

Zoe Seeley got another goal for the season to open the scoring in the first half. The match remained at 1-0 heading into halftime, with Beecroft looking for a response in the second half. The clash was tight, but the quality of North Sydney came through with Emily Edwards and Isabel Mulhall adding two more goals in the 68th and 73rd minute. The scoreline stayed this way, with North Sydney United moving into 2nd place and making their intentions clear for the season in an important match.

Northbridge FC 4 – 0 Macquarie Dragons

Northbridge were coming into this one on fire, with three wins in a row. Macquarie Dragons were looking to get their second win of the season and climb towards mid table.

The first half was close, but the pressure from the home side paid off with Natasha Reiss scoring a quick fire double for Northbridge before half time, with their lead sitting at 2-0 going into the break. The hosts were able to add another two on the other side of the half, with Mia Wood and Gemma Chandiok rounding off a comprehensive 4-0 victory, taking their winning streak to four matches.

Normanhurst Eagles 0 – 7 UTS FC

Normanhurst needed an improved performance after a few losses in a row, whilst UTS were looking to maintain their winning streak and keep climbing the ladder after two wins in a row.

UTS dominated in the first half, with Frances Klein scoring the opener and Stefanie Aisbett adding another two in the 25th and 30th minutes. UTS proved to have too much quality for the opposition in the second half, as Emily De Freitas converted from the penalty spot. Hannah Macri got on the score sheet in-between two more goals from Stefanie Aisbett, with her four goals earning her the player of the round for Round 7. UTS now sit at the top of the table, two points ahead of North Sydney United and WPHC.

Lindfield FC 0 – 2 Flying Bats FC

The match of the round saw a huge clash, with Lindfield hosting the Flying Bats at Charles Bean. Three points would be important for both teams as they look to keep pace at the top.

The Flying Bats were able to get the opener after forcing an own goal from Lindfield, and added another from Jade Day in the 34th minute. They held onto this scoreline until half time, as Lindfield looked to chase down their lead in the second half. Despite dominating possession and putting on the pressure, the Flying Bats defended well and defended their 2-goal lead. The result means that Lindfield sits 5th and the Bats sit just behind them in 6th.

Rest of the Round

WPHC FC extended their unbeaten streak to four games against an Epping FC side who were coming off the bye in the previous week. Chevonne Kim, Emma Gardner and Isabella Fisher got on the scoresheet for the away side.
