NSFA Women’s Select Undone By Last Minute Winner

The NSFA Women’s Select Team were beaten by a final-minute header by MWFA to lose 1-0 in what was a scintillating and exciting fixture.

MWFA were the stronger team in the first half with many chances being created down both wings, calling the NSFA Select defence into action on multiple occasions, featuring centre-backs Amanda and Kim Skellern (Lindfield FC). However, NSFA Select, with their resolute defence, prevented a goal from being scored and went into half-time level at 0-0.

In the second half, NSFA Select came out of the changerooms with a fiery spirit; the momentum had shifted towards the NSFA with multiple goal-scoring opportunities coming through NSFA’s attacking players including Stefanie Aisbett (UTS FC). However, NSFA were unable to score and take a lead in the game, with MWFA’s defence and goalkeeper not able to be beaten.

As the chances ebbed and flowed throughout the second half, MWFA were awarded a corner in the final seconds of the game. In what proved to be the last action of the fixture, MWFA rose highest and headed the ball into the back of net to send the MWFA faithful into an almighty roar at Charles Bean Oval and disappoint the many NSFA supporters in attendance.

Head Coach Lorin Lambert was immensely pleased with her team’s efforts:

I am so proud of the determination, teamwork and respect the team showed to each other and to MWFA
