Men’s Premier League Weekly Review – Round 11

Men’s Premier League Weekly Review – Round 11

Just two points separate second and seventh on the ladder, with the competition tighter than ever. Northbridge took advantage of the results around them to extend their lead at the top to seven points, while a strong run of wins has propelled Knox United firmly up the ladder. Hornsby Heights returned to form in emphatic fashion, and both Kissing Point and Lindfield secured statement victories to strengthen their positions.

Chatswood Rangers 1 – 3 Northbridge FC

Friday night under lights at Northbridge Oval set the stage for an important Men’s Premier League clash. Chatswood were desperate for three points, while Northbridge looked to build momentum with back-to-back wins and strengthen their position at the top of the table.

The hosts made the perfect start, with Derek Karapetian opening the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes. The remainder of the first half was tightly contested, but Northbridge found the breakthrough they were chasing just before the break, as Dylan Mills doubled the advantage in the 41st minute.

Northbridge came out strongly after halftime and extended their lead further through Nathan Baxter in the 50th minute. Chatswood responded seven minutes later through Euan Spiers to spark hopes of a comeback, but Northbridge remained composed and controlled the contest to secure a convincing 3–1 victory.

The Friday night result saw Northbridge move seven points clear at the top of the table heading into Saturday’s fixtures.

Knox United FC 2 – 1 Berowra FC

This clash was the Match of the Round, but more importantly, it marked Knox United’s annual Black Dog Retro Round. Wearing retro jerseys inspired by the 90s, the club came together to celebrate football history while raising funds for the Black Dog Institute. It was a full day of action at NTRA, with the Division 3 side also hosting Berowra on Field 2.

Knox entered the fixture in strong form after a series of impressive results and were aiming to continue that momentum against the side sitting second on the ladder. Berowra, meanwhile, were looking to keep pressure on the league leaders following their win the previous night.

The first half was tightly contested, with chances at both ends before Knox found the breakthrough through Toby Powell. Holding a 1–0 advantage at the break, the home side knew Berowra would respond.

That response came in the 61st minute, as Callum Birrell found the equaliser for the visitors and set up a tense final half-hour.

With both sides pushing for a winner, the game opened up as full-time approached. It was Knox who delivered the decisive moment, with Ricky Chapagain striking with just eight minutes remaining to restore the lead and send the home crowd into celebration.

The result continues Knox United’s impressive rise, moving them to within just two points of second place despite sitting seventh on the ladder. At this point, results like this no longer feel like upsets; they’re becoming the standard as Knox builds serious momentum heading into the second half of the season.

There is still time to donate to the Black Dog Institute and support the annual Knox United Retro Round Event. Congratulations to the club for hosting another successful event for an important cause.

Hornsby Heights FC 4 – 0 North Sydney United

Hornsby Heights continue to prove themselves one of the league’s most unpredictable sides this season, capable of producing dominant performances against anyone on their day. North Sydney United arrived at Montview looking to end a recent losing run after an encouraging start to the campaign.

It quickly became clear which version of Heights would show up. The home side started sharply and made their early pressure count, with Ryan Brooks opening the scoring in the 8th minute. They continued to control proceedings and extended their lead with two quick goals – a Lawrence Frederick penalty in the 24th minute, followed by a Ben O’Connor strike just two minutes later.

After a near-perfect opening half, Hornsby Heights removed any doubt early in the second period when Julian Cotterell found the net to make it four. North Sydney United’s difficult afternoon was made worse by an injury to star striker Colm Walsh, adding further frustration for the travelling supporters.

Hornsby Heights saw out the result and turned their dominance into an important three points at home. The win moves them level on points with second place, trailing only on goal difference, while North Sydney United’s defeat sees Knox United move above them on the ladder.

Lindfield FC 3 – 0 West Pymble FC

Lindfield entered the clash with an even record of five wins and five losses, a side capable of producing dominant performances one week and struggling for consistency the next. Meanwhile, West Pymble arrived determined to respond after a disappointing derby defeat and return to winning ways.

It was classic Lindfield early on at Charles Bean, racing to a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Patrick Ventura opened the scoring before Luke Klusman found the net shortly after, marking his first goal since April after previously leading the Golden Boot standings.

West Pymble faced a significant challenge heading into halftime, trailing 2–0 and searching for a way back into the contest. Lindfield remained composed after the break, continuing their disciplined defensive performance before Tom Ventura sealed the result with a third goal in the 78th minute.

Another clean sheet highlighted Lindfield’s strong defensive form, with the victory lifting them into second place on goal difference in an increasingly tight ladder.

Kissing Point FC 3 – 1 Willoughby Dalleys

It was a Saturday night clash under the Auluba lights as Kissing Point hosted the travelling Willoughby Dalleys, looking to secure an important three points on home soil.

The visitors made a strong start and opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Jeremy Vaz, taking a 1–0 advantage into halftime and leaving Kissing Point searching for a response.

Looking to change the momentum, Kissing Point turned to their bench in the 57th minute, introducing George Mannion – a move that would prove decisive. Just five minutes later, the home side found their equaliser in the 62nd minute through Eddie Frankish to set up a thrilling finish.

With the scores locked at 1–1, Kissing Point pushed hard for a winner at their home ground. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 80th minute when substitute Mannion converted from the penalty spot. He then capped off a memorable cameo with a second goal in the 89th minute to seal a dramatic comeback victory.

The result sees Kissing Point join Lindfield, Berowra and Hornsby Heights on 18 points, sitting just behind the trio on goal difference.

Congratulations to George Mannion, whose impactful performance off the bench makes him the Player of the Round.
