The NSFA Men’s Select narrowly fell to a 2-1 defeat against the MWFA Men’s Select at Charles Bean Oval.
The visitors exerted plenty of early pressure on the NSFA defence, finding plenty of space out wide and sending in some dangerous crosses for goalkeeper Ivan Josipovic (Dalleys) to deal with.
The NSFA enjoyed a good chance to open the scoring after Fergus Worrall found space in behind the defence on the break, but MWFA ‘keeper Luke Femia produced a good save to his right.
Further chances fell to Tim Green (West Pymble) and Brad Fiedler (Berowra) as the home side worked their way into the contest, but they could not put the ball on target.
It was MWFA who would draw first blood, as ex-NSFA player Justin Ciabatti played in Aaron Peters for a composed finish into the bottom corner.
The visitors went into half time with the lead, but it would take just five minutes after the restart for the NSFA Select to find an equaliser.
Half-time substitute Rory Spiers (Dalleys) found space out wide and his low cross into a crowded penalty box was pounced on by Brad Fiedler (Berowra) for the goal.
Fiedler spurned a chance for a second goal mid-way through the half, sending his header wide after being picked out from the left flank.
MWFA would show a clinical edge on the break, with Luke Curnow finding his way in behind the defensive line and chipping the onrushing Josipovic to score the winner with ten minutes remaining.
