Introducing the NSFA-MWFA Champions Cup

Introducing the NSFA-MWFA Champions Cup

Football NSW have now officially advised that the annual Champion of Champions tournament will not be held in 2020.

In the wake of this decision, NSFA is pleased to announce that we, in collaboration with Manly Warringah Football Association, have created the “NSFA-MWFA Champions Cup”.

The NSFA-MWFA Champions Cup will become an annual event in the Competition calendar, with fixtures scheduled to prepare age group winning teams for their Champion of Champions journey. In 2020, the Champions Cup will provide those winning teams an opportunity for silverware in light of the Champion of Champions cancellation.

The NSFA is excited to work closer with MWFA to provide additional development and pathways opportunities to our membership. This initiative will see our Competition calendar strengthened and provide extra enjoyment for those Clubs and teams involved.

Perpetual trophies will be presented to the winning association of the male competition and to the winning association of the female competition. Points will be awarded for each match and the trophy awarded to the association with the highest number of points achieved across all age groups (equal weighting) in the relative competition. There will be no extra time or penalties in matches and goal difference across all games will be used as a tiebreaker if points are equal.

Each perpetual trophy will be held by the winning association for 12 months.

The Champions Cup will follow the FNSW Champion of Champion regulations in order to prepare teams for their CoC campaign.

NSFA and MWFA will alternate hosting male and female competition matches each year.

The inaugural competition will take place on the weekend of October 10th and 11th at North Turramurra Recreation Area (pictured) and Cromer Park. Teams that finish first in the specified age groups will be automatically entered.

Men’s All Age will not take part this season as the NSFA Men’s Premier League competition will not have finished by that weekend, but they will play in future tournaments.
