For the 2024 season, for the first time in our Association’s history the Referee’s body – the NSFRA – will be providing Game Leaders for Junior Development League (JDL) matches which includes the top two divisions of Mixed U8-U11 competitions. The NSFRA are committed to mentoring and supporting Game Leaders and endeavour to provide Game Leaders with a pathway to becoming qualified Referees.
What Ages are Recommended for Game Leaders?
We recommend players age between 12-16 consider becoming Game Leaders.
Becoming a Game Leader
All Game Leaders are required to attend a 1-hour Game Leader Workshop. You can register for a Game Leader Workshop at this link (registration link is at the bottom of linked page): https://nsfa.asn.au/coaches/education/.
If you are not a registered NSFRA Referee, you will also need to pick up your gear from the NSFA office including:
- Game Leader shirt
- Whistle
- Notebook to record scores
There is no cost to becoming a Game Leader – all gear and equipment is provided at no cost. The only requirement to become a Game Leader is to attend a Game Leader Workshop.
Payments for Game Leaders
Game Leaders will be paid $22.50 per match which includes $25.00 less 10% paid to the NSFRA to fund its operation. Game Leaders should email their bank account details to the NSFRA Referee’s Manager Ben Hutchison atreferees@nsfa.asn.au including your name in the subject.
Making Yourself Available to be a Game Leader on Match Days
For being allocated to matches, the NSFRA will send Game Leaders not registered with the NSFRA an email on Monday morning asking whether they are available to be Game Leaders for matches for the following weekend. Game Leaders will be asked to provide feedback on what times you might be available to be a Game Leader the following weekend including:
- Date
- Time
- Preferred area location
There is a WhatsApp Group for Game Leaders which enables them to keep up to date with fixtures and for requesting appointment to JDL matches.
For NSFRA Referees wanting to be Game Leaders for JDL matches, you can indicate your availability for matches through Dribl.
Any questions should be directed to the Referees Manager at referees@nsfra.com.au.
