Mark Bryant was a cornerstone of Lane Cove West Football Club (LCWFC) and an advocate for grassroots football across the Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA). Mark has left behind a remarkable legacy built over four decades of service, leadership and love for the beautiful game.
Mark joined LCWFC in 1979, scoring two goals on debut and what followed was an extraordinary 38-year playing career, highlighted by his unrelenting dedication to the Club’s growth and culture. Mark served as LCWFC Club President from 1983 to 2013, stepping down only to pursue a position on the Board of Soccer Australia. Even after relinquishing formal leadership roles, Mark remained the driving force behind LCWFC’s operations, from team management to match reports that blended football insights with his signature humour and historical references.
Beyond LCWFC, Mark’s influence was felt across the NSFA. He was pivotal in introducing and expanding over-age football competitions, advocating for the creation of Over 35s and Over 45s divisions, even pioneering Over 60s and walking football initiatives.
In recognition of his immense service, the NSFA has named the Men’s Over 45s and Over 55s trophy the “Mark Bryant Cup”. Perhaps the most fitting tribute will be the continuation of Mark’s ethos: playing football in the right spirit, cherishing camaraderie, and making sure that “too much football is never enough.”
Mark’s influence reached far beyond Lane Cove West. Mark Bryant was a true gentleman and a tireless advocate for football who made a profound difference to football in our district. We look forward to remembering Mark and continuing his legacy at the inaugural Mark Bryant Cup starting on 30 August 2025.
