Colin (Col) became involved in football when his sons Stephen and Gary started playing with the Kissing Point Sports Club. The boys played both football and cricket. Col was a coach, manager and committee member for the Kissing Point Soccer Club which was part of the Kissing Point Sports Club. In 1972, Col became the Kissing Point Soccer Club Vice President of the Juniors (Under 7’s to Under 16’s) and continued in this role until the end of the 1974 season. Col then became the Club’s Senior Vice President in 1975 and 1976. Col was made a Life Member of Kissing Point Sports Club (now known as the Kissing Point Football Club) in 1977.
During the time that Col was Vice President of the Junior Soccer, the club was very successful. In 1972, there were 28 teams who won 5 premierships. In 1973, there were 27 teams who won 13 premierships for the Kissing Point Soccer Club and 24 teams in 1974 who won 5 premierships. 1973 was the most successful season during the first fifty years of the Kissing Point Soccer Club with club members including 35 KDSA representatives and 3 NSW representative players.
Col’s first years for volunteering in the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association (KDSA) were as Ground Controller. He held this position from 1974 to 1976. He then moved on to become the Junior Vice President of the KDSA from 1977 to 1979 and then the Senior Vice President from 1980 to 1981.
Col was known to be a manager of KDSA Representative Teams and worked his way up to become the Team Manager of the Ku-ring-gai First Grade Representative Team. In 1991, Ku-ring-gai and Manly Warringah Representative sides merged to form Manly North Shore United. They were based at Cromer Park. Col accepted the position of joint Team Manager to enable a smooth transition of uniting both clubs. He held this position until three years later Col became the sole First Grade Manager, a position that he held until 2004 which is the year that the Club became Manly United. After retiring from the position of Team Manager, Col still attends games at Cromer Park where he would play a part on match days as a jacketed Club Official.
Col was honoured with Life Membership of the KDSA (now known as Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA)) in 1980. Col was also honoured with Life Membership of Manly United in 2022. We thank Col for his significant past and continuing contribution to football over the years in our district.
