Eric Hayes: A Founding Father of Ku-ring-gai Football and Esteemed Life Member

Eric Hayes migrated from the UK and when football was started in the Ku-ring-gai district. In 1957, Eric became involved with the Lindfield Soccer Club, one of the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association (KDSA) foundation clubs. Lindfield Soccer Club started with two teams from Lindfield Public school.  The club continued to grow and in 1959 had 7 teams and in 1960 the first All-Age team was formed. Both Eric’s sons, Kevin and Terry, played for the Lindfield Soccer Club.

In the 50th Anniversary edition of Soccer News, it is reported that Eric was always at the club coaching days that were conducted one day each week at Chelmsford, Lindfield’s home ground in the early days. This oval is now known as Roseville Oval. Eric was known to be an early administrator and coach of the Lindfield Soccer Club.

Eric’s was a Bank Manager which gave him the skills to fulfill the role of Treasurer for the KDSA. He was the KDSA’s first Treasurer, a position he held from 1957 to 1965 inclusive. From 1959 to 1963 Eric held two positions on the management of the KDSA. Not only was he Treasurer but also the Secretary of the Association.

Eric was inducted as a Life Member in 1968 of the KDSA (now known as the Northern Suburbs Football Association) and passed away in 2009. We thank Eric for all his work with both Lindfield Football Club and the NSFA. We remember Eric for his pioneering contributions to our Association which have helped to make it what it is today.
