Mental Health First Aid Courses Conducted

NSFA Wellbeing Officers from clubs throughout the NSFA participated in Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses delivered by Man Anchor earlier this month at Club Turramurra.

These courses further developed the partnership between NSFA and Man Anchor, headed by Steven Gamble, following the Let’s Talk workshop run for NSFA members in 2021.

This saw a total of 32 NSFA representatives attending the courses to ensure that their club members’ experience is as positive as possible in 2022 and moving forwards.

With statistics showing that 26.7% of Australian’s 16-24 years of age and 20% of Australian’s aged between 16 and 85 years of age, in any one year, have a common mental health illness, this shows the importance of the Wellbeing Officers being involved at clubs throughout the NSFA.

The clubs who have Wellbeing Officers in 2022 are:

  • Berowra FC
  • Corpus Christi
  • Gordon SC
  • Hornsby Heights FC
  • Hornsby RSL FC
  • Kissing Point FC
  • Knox United FC
  • Lindfield FC
  • Mongo Football
  • Mount Colah FC
  • North Sydney United
  • St Ives FC
  • St Michael’s FC
  • Turramurra United
  • KDFRA (Ku-ring-gai Districts Football Referees Association)
  • XLR8 Player Development
  • NSFA

It was great to see so many participants across the NSFA clubs for this initial program. To have 14 NSFA clubs represented, along with the KDFRA and XLR8 Player Development, is a huge success,” said NSFA’s Wellbeing Manager Jake Cohen.

“This leads to greater knowledge for the Wellbeing Officers involved in those clubs and ensure that’s conversations can occur more easily.

“What’s also great is that conversations have already been happening from Wellbeing Officers from different clubs.

“This is the idea of the program, that Wellbeing Officers from different clubs are sharing their learnings to ensure each improves for the betterment of all.”

If you have any questions regarding the program or how you can get involved, please contact Jake on operations@nsfa.asn.au.
