Female Football Friday a Roaring Success

Female Football Friday a Roaring Success

NSFA conducted the first Female Football Friday at NTRA on March 2, with over 200 players getting involved in the evening’s various activities to mark the start of Female Football Week, which runs until March 10.

The evening began with over 50 girls participating in a free skills clinic run by our XLR8 Player Development coaches – Hannah, Eilidh, Eliza, Chaska and Saoirse. All five coaches also play for Northern Tigers FC in the NSW Women’s NPL, with Eliza also making her Matildas debut late last year.

“It was great to see plenty of smiles on faces from all the players of different ages and skill levels,” said Eilidh, XLR8’s Football School Program Leader.

“Not only did girls come with their teammates and have fun, but plenty of others arrived not knowing anyone and came away with new friends!”

We will be hosting a Girls Holiday Clinic during the first week of the April school holidays!

Each clinic participant was also provided with a free gift to take home thanks to Football NSW and official Female Football Week partner rebel.

The clinic was then followed by a series of exhibition matches as NSFA Diamond League teams from Asquith Soccer Club, Chatswood Rangers Sports Club, Hornsby Heights Football Club and West Pymble FC played against the four Northern Tigers FC Girls SAP teams.

“The games acted as a great showcase of the talent in both our community and representative teams, with some great football on display and all players thoroughly enjoying the experience!” said NSFA Community Football Manager Ed Ferguson.

The evening concluded with the first-ever fixture of the NSFA Women’s Select team, coming out on top against the Northern Tigers FC Under 17’s in a 5-3 win.

The Women’s Select squad, started this year to match the Men’s Select squad that is now in its fourth year, features players from Northbridge Football Club, Lindfield FC, Lane Cove FC and North Sydney United Football Club. This year’s coach is Ciaran McCabe of Northbridge.

The team will take on the MWFA Women’s Select this Friday at Charles Bean Oval in Lindfield, 7.30pm kick-off.
